Timeline

Starting a group home usually takes 90 to 180 days to go through the licensing process, once a complete application has been submitted to the licensing agency. 

Group homes requiring elaborate security systems or extensive medical equipment usually require more time.  These rare group homes must meet standards governed by organizations outside of the agencies operated by the state.

You should plan to open your business in 6 to 9 months.
